Recommendations for Alternative Disease Treatment in Poultry
Every year more and more customers inquire about growing poultry organically. With the new FDA regulation precluding the use of antibiotics for treating animals, we are passing along some information on organic products to use for the management of poultry. We are listing two sources where the products can be purchased and a flow chart describing when to use a particular product.
It needs to be mentioned that using a medicated starter feed with amprolium as a coccidiosis (cocci) preventative is still acceptable to the FDA. Corid liquid remains an acceptable treatment for chickens suffering an outbreak of coccidiosis. Also, BMD Bacitracin can be used for the treatment of enteritis. In addition, probiotics as a preventative are also recommended to help create a healthy digestive system.
